This co-operative was formed by the originator of this art form (Edward Tingatinga), which is responsible for making many of the actual “Tinga Tinga” paintings now found in the country. There are currently about 100 painters (including women) that work in this co-operative, making these paintings. “Tinga Tinga” art is about creating high quality art & paintings that anyone can afford. Note: the BBC TV network produced an animated show, “Tinga Tinga Tales” that was based on this artwork. The show is centered on various animated animals and uses music, dialogue and colorful imagery to tell African folk tales about the origins of local animals.
